DEBATE PROVES REPUBLICANS LOST
Back on June 20th I wrote the Post below. It was my attempt to encourage a real policy debate and a challenge to Baier/MacCallum to moderate a real debate. It did not happen. The “Debate” last night just reaffirmed how gutless and pathetic the Republican candidates are and the fact that there is not a leader among them. When all but two raised their hand to say they would support Donald Trump even if convicted of lying to, and committing fraud upon, the American people in an effort to overthrow our democracy and hold on to power it was a clear demonstration of their lack of any semblence of courage and as such not an ounce of the qualities of a leader. What is the most sad fact is that it was completely predictable and anyone paying any attention could have written the ultimate responses before the actual words left their mouths. Although it gets more and more difficult by the day I am going to remain a Republican and hang on to what appears more and more to be the unlikely possibility that the Republican Party can be saved.
Baier/MacCallum Policy Debate?

Can Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum moderate a real policy debate. I have a novel idea. Let’s have a real policy debate within the Republican Party. I don’t want this to be an attack page and instead an idea page, but the Republican Candidates are pathetic and they should all sign a pledge NOT to support each other if nominated. Imagine if we had a Real Republican Candidate who espoused smaller government, support for law and order and a strong economy during a real policy debate. Maybe a real candidate would emerge.
I think we can all agree we are not seeing the beliefs and ideals we would like to define the Party in our current slate of candidates. Has a single candidate discussed proposed policies and how to deal with a real policy debate. How great would it be to see a candidate stand up and just state plainly and clearly that they don’t believe in the ideas that are currently motivating and setting the tone and direction of the Republican Party. I hope and I believe real republicans want to see a Republican Party that believes in smaller government, law and order and a strong economy. All of these are difficult to specifically define, express and formulate a plan to move forward under, but can we at least have a plan and specific policies to be able to articulate and pursue. More importantly, we need a candidate willing to state that they want to be elected on these ideals and have at least some semblance of a plan and also who have no desire to, nor will they, crawl into the world of the current candidates and republican leadership, including the Republican National Committee, in order to get elected.
How refreshing and inspiring would it be to hear someone stand up and say they are running, and they are running on those positive beliefs that used to define the Republican Party and will not be joining the insanity that currently defines the Republican Party. That they are willing to engage in a real policy debate that is not an argument about who can hate who the most or attack whatever group of people or set of social beliefs with the most intensity. I’m a life-long Republican and I don’t even know what “Woke” means.
The reality is that in order to see this we will need to see someone with the courage to run on that platform and be willing to take on directly the barrage of attacks that an approach like this would generate. I don’t see anyone out there who fits that bill. To be sure that is perfectly understandable in our current political climate. However, this is where I believe a Real Republican movement could change that reality. If Real Republicans could muster the courage to come forward and make it clear that they don’t want to continue on this current path and will not support the current status quo but will support a candidate leading in a real direction with real policies and away from the insanity, it might be possible to recruit qualified candidates to step up and run.
I have a novel idea for the Republican Party. Real policy debates within the Party. Let’s return to the days of genuine policy debate that generates a real policy approach that actually leads to a growing and improving country. I hope folks will join me in a call for a real “Policy Debate” that will allow us all to argue for our beliefs and values and demand a debate with the stated goal of arguing for real policies that aren’t grounded in hatred and race baiting.
